Gaza Trademark Office Resumes Renewal Services and Grants Temporary Relief from Late Fees

Published: July 2026

The Trademark Office in Gaza has gradually resumed its administrative and operational activities, including the processing of trademark renewal applications and the issuance of renewal certificates.

As part of the temporary measures introduced in response to the exceptional circumstances affecting the Gaza Strip, trademark registrations that became due for renewal during the period in which the Office was unable to operate may currently be renewed without the imposition of late-payment penalties, provided that the delay resulted from those circumstances.

Trademark owners with registrations that expired or became due for renewal during the interruption period should review their portfolios and proceed with the required renewal formalities as soon as possible.

The temporary relief is expected to assist rights holders who were unable to submit renewal applications or pay the applicable official fees while the Trademark Office was not fully operational.

Applicants and trademark owners should nevertheless be aware that:

  • renewal applications remain subject to the applicable official procedures and standard renewal fees;
  • the waiver relates to late-payment penalties resulting from the exceptional interruption of the Office’s operations;
  • supporting documents may need to be resubmitted in certain pending matters; and
  • procedures, payment arrangements and processing times may remain subject to change due to the continuing exceptional circumstances.

Under the applicable trademark regulations, where a registration is not renewed by its expiry date, the Registrar may publish a notice concerning the outstanding renewal. The registration may generally be renewed within one month following publication of that notice upon payment of the renewal fee and the prescribed additional fee. If payment is not made within that period, the Registrar may remove the trademark from the register, although restoration may remain possible at the Registrar’s discretion and subject to the applicable conditions and fees.

ATB Intellectual Property continues to monitor developments at the Gaza Trademark Office and will provide further updates regarding renewal procedures, late-payment penalties and any additional deadlines announced by the competent authorities.
