The UAE Trademark Office has recently introduced a temporary procedural flexibility concerning the submission of legalized Powers of Attorney for trademark applications that include the required undertaking.
Under the standard procedure, applicants must submit the legalized POA within 90 days from the filing date of the trademark application. This deadline has traditionally been treated as strict and non-extendable. However, in light of the current regional circumstances and delays affecting international courier services, the UAE Trademark Office has confirmed that applicants may now request an additional 30-day extension for submitting the legalized POA when necessary.
The extension must be requested by the appointed local agent through a formal request to the Trademark Office, and importantly, no additional official fees will apply for obtaining this extra time.
This temporary measure is intended to assist trademark applicants who may encounter logistical difficulties in obtaining and delivering properly legalized documentation within the usual timeframe.
Despite these procedural adjustments, all intellectual property services in the United Arab Emirates remain fully operational, and the Trademark Office continues to process trademark filings and related IP matters without disruption.
Our firm remains available to assist clients with submitting extension requests and ensuring full compliance with UAE trademark filing requirements.
