July 23, 2026 | Intellectual Property & Brand Protection Training by ATB Intellectual Property
On 23 July 2026, ATB Intellectual Property LLC conducted an Intellectual Property & Brand Protection Training in Colombo, Sri Lanka, bringing together officers from Sri Lanka Customs for a comprehensive knowledge-sharing session focused on strengthening intellectual property (IP) enforcement and combating counterfeit trade.
The training was led by Hatem Abdelghani, Founder and Managing Director of ATB Intellectual Property, who shared practical insights drawn from years of experience in intellectual property protection and enforcement across the Middle East and beyond. The session was designed to enhance the participants’ understanding of the evolving counterfeit landscape and reinforce the critical role customs authorities play in preventing infringing goods from entering legitimate markets.
Throughout the program, participants explored the fundamentals of intellectual property rights, with particular emphasis on trademarks and the importance of effective border enforcement. The discussions highlighted the economic and social impact of counterfeit products, including the risks they pose to consumers, legitimate businesses, and national economies.
The training also covered practical approaches to identifying counterfeit products, recognizing common indicators of infringement, and understanding the procedures involved in border enforcement actions. Through real-world case studies and interactive discussions, officers were able to examine current enforcement challenges and exchange perspectives on effective inspection and intervention practices.
As the first line of defense at national borders, customs authorities play a vital role in safeguarding intellectual property rights. Continuous professional development and knowledge-sharing initiatives such as this training contribute to stronger enforcement capabilities and closer cooperation between rights holders, government authorities, and intellectual property professionals.
ATB Intellectual Property LLC extends its sincere appreciation to Sri Lanka Customs for their active participation, engagement, and commitment throughout the program. Their dedication to enhancing enforcement capabilities reflects the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the global challenge of counterfeiting and protecting innovation.
