Qatar Introduces New Trademark Filing Practice – September 2025

The Qatari Trademark Office has announced the implementation of a new filing practice, effective immediately. All trademark applications must now comply with the 11th edition of the Nice Classification when listing goods and services.

Under this new requirement, claiming entire class headings or all goods and services within a class is no longer acceptable. Applicants are required to specify their goods and services in precise terms, strictly following the terminology of the 11th edition.

This change applies to both new trademark applications and pending applications currently under examination, and is aligned with the provisions of GCC Law No. 7 of 2014, which seeks to harmonize intellectual property procedures across Gulf Cooperation Council member states.
