Sudan: Temporary Suspension and Relocation of Trademark Office Operations

December 2025

The Registrar General of Intellectual Property in Sudan has officially announced the temporary suspension of all administrative activities of the Trademark Office, effective 14 December 2025, as part of a government initiative to relocate state institutions back to the capital, Khartoum.

According to the official notice, all trademark-related administrative work in Port Sudan has been suspended to facilitate the relocation process. During this transitional phase, the Trademark Office will operate temporarily from the Ministry of Minerals premises in Khartoum, as the main Intellectual Property Office is currently undergoing repairs.

The relocation period is provisionally estimated at approximately two weeks, although the exact timeline remains subject to local logistical and transportation conditions. No definitive date has yet been announced for the full resumption of normal operations.

The authorities have confirmed that any official deadlines falling within the suspension period will be automatically extended to the first working day following the official resumption of services. This measure is intended to ensure that the rights of trademark owners and applicants remain fully protected during the interruption.

Once operations resume in Khartoum, the Trademark Office is expected to continue applying the same procedures and practices that were in place prior to the suspension.
